De La Salle Holy Cross College is delighted to welcome Mr Sibusiso Masombuka as our new Deputy Head of High School: Co-Curricular, overseeing Sport, Culture, Outreach and Spirit and Unity.
Mr Masombuka brings with him a deeply people-centred approach, a passion for purposeful co-curricular engagement and a clear vision for developing programmes that complement and strengthen the academic journey of every pupil.
“When academics and co-curricular activities are supported together, pupils gain not only knowledge and critical thinking, but also practical life skills that prepare them for life after school.”
At High School level, his focus is on consistency, intentional participation and pride in representing the College. Working closely with staff and pupils, he aims to ensure that co-curricular programmes are well-structured, meaningful and accessible, creating spaces where pupils can grow confidently beyond the classroom.
Across the wider College, Mr Masombuka is committed to collaboration with colleagues and families to strengthen alignment between phases, build sustainable traditions and deepen a shared sense of identity and belonging.
“These programmes should intentionally support pupils’ spiritual growth and character development, helping them discover their strengths and develop a clear sense of purpose.”
A strong believer in relationships and authentic leadership, Mr Masombuka describes himself as someone who genuinely cares about people and is motivated by work with meaning and impact. His interest in human behaviour, learning and culture has been shaped by his interactions with pupils and colleagues, as well as by travel that has broadened his worldview and appreciation for diversity.
His own schooling and university experiences in co-curricular activities continue to inform his approach today.
“Co-curricular activities helped me build confidence, resilience, teamwork and perseverance; qualities I still carry with me.”
These experiences fuel his passion for creating inclusive opportunities where every pupil, regardless of background or ability, can explore, grow and thrive.
His ultimate goal is for pupils to truly recognise the value of co-curricular life at De La Salle Holy Cross College, to leave school equipped with the skills, character and values needed to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider world.
“I hope to lead in ways that are authentic, relational and impactful, where everyone feels valued, included and supported to thrive.”
Reflecting on his first weeks at the College, Mr Masombuka speaks with gratitude and excitement.
“I have been met with an incredible and heartfelt welcome. This truly is a school with soul and I am especially happy to join the College in its 40th year of amalgamation.”
As we begin this next chapter together, we warmly welcome Mr Masombuka and look forward to the energy, vision and collaboration he brings to co-curricular life at De La Salle Holy Cross College.
