SPORT

Developing Diverse Skills

Being involved is a big part of what it means to be a De La Salle Holy Cross College pupil. Our children are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities beyond the classroom. The focus is on developing diverse skills and competency through participation, enjoyment and competitiveness.

We offer a wide variety of sporting activities and creative opportunities for pupils to participate in structured leagues and fixtures where they are exposed to a high level of competition. We ensure that our players are exposed to opportunities to attend area, provincial and national trials.

The College is proud of its pupils who hold provincial and national colours in various disciplines, and of those who participate just for the love of the game!

CULTURE

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Cultural activities form an integral part of the broader curriculum offered at De La Salle Holy Cross College. The College prides itself on an extensive array of cultural activities. These activities allow for pupils to find their niche, while exploring and developing new skills and talents.

In 2023, De La Salle Holy Cross College had a ground-breaking partnership with the Market Theatre when our annual production, When They Go Low, was invited to run live performances during Youth Month. All 3 performances were sold out! From our Lasallian Youth Band, Marimbas, Guitar Group, Choir, Art Club, Ukulele’s, Djembe Drum Club, Music Celebration performances and renowned Major Productions, there are cultural opportunities for everyone.

Specialised Facilities

De La Salle Holy Cross College is situated in Victory Park, Johannesburg. Our #OneCollege is shared over two campuses with St Charles Catholic Church located in the centre. Our Junior School caters for Grades RR to 6 and the Junior High and High School accommodating Grades 7 – 12. Each campus has a vast array of exceptional academic and sporting facilities with ample space and excellent resources for our academic, spiritual, and specialised sports and culture programmes.

Our many sporting facilities include a flood-lit Aquatic Centre, comprising a FINA approved 25m, 10-lane pool. For our younger children, an additional Learn-to-Swim pool provides a separate and secure space to acquire essential water safety skills. Our 33 Central Coffee Shop, Tuckshop and Commercial Kitchen, is an ideal meeting and entertainment hub for our school community. Rugby and soccer fields, netball, tennis, and basketball courts provide for a variety of sporting activities throughout the year.

Each campus boasts a school hall with seating capacity for 500 guests, with fully equipped modern sound and lighting for major theatre productions, assemblies and a wide range of exciting events. The state-of-the-art auditorium caters for smaller, more intimate audiences. Both campuses host their own Wellness Centres, well-resourced Science Laboratories, Libraries, Information Technology Centres, Music Rooms, specialist classrooms for visual and creative arts, and more. The Prayer Room and Chapel are two of our most cherished venues at the College.
