De La Salle Holy Cross College
Private Primary School in Randburg
De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School is committed to nurturing each child’s academic and spiritual growth, offering thoughtful guidance and support as they explore their values, character and sense of purpose throughout their time at the school.
We offer thoughtful accompaniment and guidance during each child’s faith development, particularly for our Catholic pupils, as they grow and progress through their sacramental journey.
Our Junior School is part of a wider Catholic school in Johannesburg, where faith, academic excellence and service are woven into the rhythms of daily life.
An onsite Wellness and Academic Support Team is available to provide holistic care and guidance to pupils and their families, at no additional cost, ensuring that every child is supported both academically and emotionally.
BUILDING STRONG LEARNING FOUNDATIONS
Strong Foundations that Endure
Our Junior School is committed to laying robust academic foundations that support confident, capable learners for years to come. Our pupils proudly participate in the annual “Olympic Games of Reading,” the Kids’ Lit Quiz with our team achieving outstanding success and qualifying for national play-offs!
Literacy: A structured approach to reading development, including systematic phonics and decoding in the early years, guided reading groups and frequent, purposeful writing supported by meaningful feedback develops comprehension and language proficiency.
Numeracy: Daily practice builds fluency and confidence, while problem-solving strategies and hands-on learning deepen understanding.
Inquiry and Creativity: Pupils engage in age-appropriate science, history and geography practicals, alongside project-based learning opportunities. Creativity is nurtured through the integration of art and music wherever possible.
Digital Literacy: Pupils develop essential computer skills, including keyboarding and the safe, purposeful use of technology. From Grades RR to 6, structured computer lessons equip learners with the digital literacy needed for a modern world. While the College maintains a strong book-based approach, technology is used intentionally to enhance learning. Pupils are not required to bring devices to school, as all necessary resources are provided.
Assessment and Feedback: Ongoing, low-stakes assessments track progress and inform teaching. Clear rubrics and regular parent communication ensure transparency and alignment with the curriculum.
Curriculum: Our curriculum is carefully structured to balance academic rigour with creativity, inquiry, and the holistic development of each child.

Admissions and Fees
Our admissions process is designed to be straightforward and family-friendly. Parents begin by completing an online application and submitting the necessary documents. Where appropriate, children may be invited for a brief developmental screening or a meet-the-teacher session to ensure the right fit for their learning journey.
Once the process is complete, families receive feedback along with an enrolment pack outlining the next steps. Successful applicants are then supported through a comprehensive orientation, helping both parents and pupils settle in confidently and comfortably.
