De La Salle Holy Cross College

Private Catholic School in Johannesburg

De La Salle Holy Cross College is a leading private, co-educational Catholic school in Johannesburg, providing a values-driven education from Primary through to High School.

Rooted in the Lasallian and Holy Cross tradition, our approach is both intentional and consistent: to place each pupil at the centre, to shape character as purposefully as we develop academic excellence and to partner meaningfully with parents. Families choose DLSHCC for the warmth of our community, the strength of our teaching and the richness of our sporting and cultural life.

Above all, they value the steady formation of habits; discipline, service and perseverance, that shape young people of character, equipping them to be resilient, responsible and ready to make a difference.

LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

40 Years of De La Salle Holy Cross College

In 2026, the College celebrated 40 years of amalgamation, always in the Holy Presence of God.

In 1986, the educational legacy of our Founders, the De La Salle Brothers and the compassionate mission of the Holy Cross Sisters, came together in a historic amalgamation that gave rise to De La Salle Holy Cross College. This union brought together two rich Catholic traditions, united by a shared commitment to faith, excellence and service.

De La Salle Holy Cross College has continued to form young people of character, purpose and faith, carrying forward a legacy built on courage, collaboration and a deep commitment to making God’s love known in the world.

The College nurtures academic excellence maintaining a 100% IEB Matric Pass Rate throughout the years.

VALUES-DRIVEN EDUCATION

Our Catholic, Lasallian Holy Cross Ethos

At DLSHCC, faith is lived, not simply spoken about. Rooted in the Lasallian Holy Cross traditions, our ethos shapes both the everyday rhythms and defining moments of school life, from morning prayers and assemblies to respectful classrooms, a culture of gratitude, meaningful service, retreats and attentive pastoral care that supports each child.

We guide our pupils to think with clarity and act with compassion; to pursue excellence with humility; and to understand success as leadership in service of others.

Pastoral Care: A tiered support system ensures that every pupil is known and supported, with access to chaplaincy and counselling when needed.

Belonging and Safety: A strong sense of belonging is fostered through clear behaviour expectations, a firm anti-bullying stance and safeguarding practices that are consistently communicated and upheld.

Service: Pupils are encouraged to live out their values through age-appropriate outreach and service initiatives, developing empathy, responsibility and a heart for others throughout the year.

Academics from Primary to High

Primary Phase (Foundation to Intermediate) We lay strong academic foundations in literacy, numeracy and inquiry, creating classrooms that are both structured and nurturing. Teachers set clear expectations, provide timely, meaningful feedback and maintain open communication with parents.

Pupils engage in daily practice of core skills while exploring science, social studies, the arts and technology through age-appropriate, inquiry-based learning experiences. This balanced approach fosters both confidence and curiosity.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Reading programmes and guided writing
  • Numeracy fluency and problem-solving
  • Library lessons and digital literacy
  • Early exposure to coding and robotics, where appropriate
  • Learning support and extension to meet diverse needs

High School (Junior High and Senior High)

In the High School, pupils transition from guided practice to independence, taking ownership of subject choices, study routines and exam preparation under the mentorship of staff who teach, guide and inspire. Our approach balances structure; study skills, past papers and tutorials, with agency; goal-setting, self-reflection and leadership opportunities, helping pupils become confident, self-directed learners.

Subject Choice: Pupils select from a broad range of core subjects and electives, aligning their studies with their strengths, interests and future aspirations, while maintaining a strong academic foundation.

Academic Support: A structured support system, including tutorials, study-skills development and personalised mentorship, equips pupils with the tools, confidence and strategies to succeed academically and manage an increasing workload.

Pathways: Comprehensive university and career guidance, enriched by alumni talks and exposure opportunities, ensures pupils make informed decisions and are well-prepared for life beyond school.

Matric Results: In 2025, our pupils made us proud yet again, achieving 100% Matric Pass Rate with an average of 2.9 distinctions each; a testament to their dedication and hard work. Supported by passionate teachers and a nurturing environment, these results reflect not only academic excellence but also growing confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

EXCELLENCE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
