The De La Salle Holy Cross College Matric Dance 2026 was a memorable evening of celebration and thanksgiving as the College community gathered beneath a breath-taking Santorini-inspired setting to honour the Grade 12s on one of their final highlights in their journey through school life.
The occasion carried added significance as the Class of 2026 represents the 40th matriculating class since the amalgamation of De La Salle College and Holy Cross Convent. This marks a major milestone in the College’s proud history and Lasallian Holy Cross heritage.
Welcoming pupils, parents, staff, clergy and guests, College Principal Mr Neil Berndsen reflected on the importance of the occasion and the spirit in which the event was brought to life. He praised the dedication of the Grade 11 committee, parents, pupils and staff whose teamwork transformed the evening into what he described as “a masterpiece that will be remembered for many years to come.”
Mr Berndsen also paid tribute to the parents of the Matric Class of 2026, thanking them for the sacrifices and unwavering support that has shaped their children’s journeys from their very first day of school to this special occasion. “Your child is here tonight because of you and the sacrifices you have made and as a school we are immensely grateful,” he shared.
Using the imagery of a sunset as a symbol of transition, Mr Berndsen encouraged the Matrics to embrace both the excitement and uncertainty of the future with courage and faith “Whether it is Santorini, Sandton, or anywhere in between, wherever life takes you, I hope you carry with you a suitcase packed not only with ambition, but with faith, integrity, courage, kindness and gratitude,” he said.
The evening was a reminder to pause and appreciate the beauty of the present moment. In his heartfelt message to the Class of 2026, Mr Berndsen reflected: “Life moves quickly, faster than we ever realise. And so, I urge you, to never lose the ability to slow down where possible… to notice beauty, to appreciate people, to recognise God’s presence in ordinary moments.”
As the sun set on this special chapter, the 40th matriculating class since amalgamation celebrated together in true Lasallian Holy Cross spirit; united in friendship and hope for the future.
